We offset 35 tonnes of CO2-e by contributing to reforestation in the Yarra Yarra biodiversity corridor in WA.
Despite a rough year around the world, Vokke was adamant to maintain our commitment to improving, offsetting and limiting the impact we have on the environment. As part of this, Vokke engaged with an award-winning carbon solution provider to offset the majority of the carbon emissions we produced in 2020. That’s 35 tonnes of CO2-e emissions, and a step forward to decarbonizing our planet.
What are biodiverse reforestation carbon offsets?
Carbon offsets are generated from carbon sequestered by specific biodiverse tree plantings within approved areas. Each biodiverse reforestation carbon offset (BRCO) is independently verified under the Australian Government’s Climate Active Standard. All trees that are planted are protected legally by a 100 year Carbon Right and Carbon Covenant registered on the land titles, preventing them from being cut down. Further, BRCOs are retired on an internal Carbon Neutral registry, guaranteeing each credit cannot be resold.
How is carbon offset by tree planting?
Trees remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store the carbon in their bark, stems, leaves, trunks and roots. All measurements that estimate carbon storage are performed using techniques approved by the international Gold Standard Foundation.
Are there additional benefits?
Definitely! Considering that over 90% of the northern wheatbelt of Southwest Australia was cleared for agriculture by European settlers, it’s important to restore the native habitat required for rare and endangered flora and fauna to thrive. Native plants also help prevent erosion, and degradation by salt.
What if there is a fire?
While the trees are planted with natural firebreaks and separations, each tree is also protected with fire insurance which allows for trees to be restored if they are burnt or damaged.
